Fall Style Alerts

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Its all  about the three C’s: Comfortable, Chic, and Classy, my 3 favorite wardrobe words.

This fall the words chic and comfort can describe the newest styles.

Fashion lovers will be mesmerized by the beautifully crafted must have items for this fall season; both simplistic and smart for any woman’s personal style and unique fashion sense.

This fashion season, Harper’s Bazaar Magazine has come out with their list for hits of the season in show stopping trends. The top 4 contenders are irresistible to the touch and will make any closet the envy of your neighbors.

1. The season’s heart stopping color trends, camel and gray. These eternally classic and neutral shades will surely make any outfit polished to perfection.

Indulge and wrap yourself in fabrics of leather and wool. Be sure to accessorize your new leather trench coat with a belt and feel ready to take on the world.

Blazin hot Blazers

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

A fitted and structured blazer is a must in building your wardrobe essentials.

Blazers are versatile pieces that have great range of possibilities. They work with almost any type of outfit. It can be dressed up or down. You can wear it for a night of dancing followed by a day at the office. There are many ways to wear a blazer and look right on trend. It’s as easy as pairing up with a skinny jean and a white T. You can pump up your style by wearing it with a feminine floral dress.  For a classic and chic look choose a pencil skirt.  When shopping for this essential piece, there are 3 key factors to choosing the right fit for you.

First, the length of the jacket should be in proportion to your height. You don’t want it to be too long or too short.

Second, the fit is very important. The blazer should fit snug but not too tight. You should be able to feel the difference.

Third, choose a style and color that will compliment the rest of your wardrobe.

There are an abundance of options out there.  Shop around and try different styles on. You will find that you cannot live without this obvious piece.

Shady summer

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Sunglasses are one of those great accessories that anyone can wear and afford. They can actually be a mini makeover. With so many affordable price points, you can literally sport a new pair for everyday of the week. Some big trends for sunglasses this summer are bold colors, two tone frames , aviators, and the stylish wayfarers.

Consider your face shape when updating sunglasses. A round face can handle wide angular styles; stay away from anything too soft or round.  Round, oval or curved frames will soften a square face; stay away from boxy and angular frames. With a longer face shape, wide oversize frames can bring the face into proportion.

Keep in mind these basic rules when buying new sunglasses. First, make sure that they protect your eyes.  Joy Gibb from the Vision Council recommends that they have a 99% UVA and UVB ray protection. Second, try on a variety of different styles. Don’t fall for only trendy styles and make sure they look good on your face. Third, store the beauties in their case no matter how tempted you are to throw them in your bag. Use the small microfiber cleaning cloth when needed and your good to go.

Cargos Have Gone Skinny

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

The newest trend in cargo pants is the skinny leg with a military or utilitarian twist.

Celebrities have jumped on this trend in droves, especially with J Brand’s ultra-skinny Houlihan. While this is a great update to your wardrobe, be careful not to add too much bulk. Pocket placement is key. Be mindful of your body type. For example, pear shaped figures should opt for a style that has a lower pocket, away from the hips which are the widest point. For more of a boyish figure, you would want a pocket that is closer to your hips to create the illusion of curves.  Proportion is the key to getting the right fit. You don’t want to end up looking too top or bottom heavy. Cargo skinnies look best when paired with a loose T. I am loving all the fabulous colors of the cargo. Once only in army green can now look just as stylish in grey and light brown.

These particular type of cargos look great with flats, sandals or dressed up with heels. Watch your accessories with this look. While it can be dressed up, pick pieces that are neutral and not flashy. It will look out of place.

Above all, remember to incorporate your own style to make the outfit your own.

Look hot Stay Cool

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Every year there are so many options for looking great during the hot summer months. This summer I am into loose and flowy pieces. This trend is great for those warm summer months. It’s comfortable and stylish. Most importantly a great fit for all body types.

You can use this trend in tops, bottoms, dresses, or even outerwear.  Pair a flowy top with a statement necklace, skinny jeans or jeggings and a fabulous chunky wedge.  Throw a basic a-line tank with slouchy shorts over your swimsuit and your ready for a day at the beach.  A maxi dress is perfect for afternoon days while shopping or just hanging out.

Great places to find summer pieces that fit this trend are H&M, J Crew, and Zara. If you can spend a little more Diane von Furstenberg, t-bags, Gypsy 05, and Shopbop have some great options.

These trends can be used when the weather gets cooler. They will transition well into fall and winter with just a few tweaks here and there.  Throw leggings on under a dress or throw a flowy tank over a long sleeved tee. Belt a loose sweater wrap and wear it like a top and you will be set for fall.

One of the things to keep in mind whenever looking to incorporate new trends into your wardrobe is price and longevity.  For the pieces that can be carried into the next season spend a little more so that it will last. But for those one hit wonders I recommend being frugal.
